And now you know what bunnies do on their day off!
Hands first appeared way back in comic 107, a brief weird two comic encounter before re-emerging in comic 125. Last we saw them they were sheltering under a cardboard box!
Transcript:
Thing 2: The hand!
Thing 1: The hand is back!
Thing 1: The hole is getting bigger.
Thing 2: Bunson knows how to stop it.
Thing 1: Bunson!
Thing 2: Bunson!
Thing 2: Where are you?
Cut to Bunson listening to loud music on his headphones while dancing along a rainbow.
Bunson?
to be continued…
It is a very strange feeling to put yourself in your own webcomic!
Transcript:
Thing 1: Do we step on it?
Thing 2: That might make it angry
A scraggly haired human comes out of the hole in the ground.
Human: Hi
Thing 2: It talks!
Thing 1: What are you?
Human: I draw you!
Boggle the Owl is pretty special. Seeing how Boggle articulated complicated feelings, talked about anxiety, depression and gave comfort is inspiring. It makes me want to make my own comic better all the time.
Boggle expressed the wall of anxiety so well, and the comfort that can come when someone sits with you. What Anxiety Feels Like.
Boggle is good at unconditional love.
And articulating the difference between making and helping.
Or the connection between Self Centeredness and Self Hatred.
Boggle’s been away for a little while, it can be rough being a sensitive, caring owl. I’m glad they’re back, I’m glad I could write an open letter articulating why we like them. If you haven’t read Boggle, go do it!
Transcript:
Dear Boggle
We’re sorry you had a rough year.
We like you.
We admire you.
And you inspire us.
We like how open you are.
How you listen, love and care.
Being vulnerable is a choice, and we admire your courage.
We how this year is better.
Wherever your wings take you.
<3 from the Things Without.
The original version did not have cake, but when I showed the first draft to my sweetie he said it needed cake. When I added the cake I drew three candles, because that felt like a nice number. I then wondered if I should draw a number of calendars that represented something… and you know what? The Things were created in June 2012 and the first comic strip went live on a website on June 27 2012! I can’t believe it.
Happy Pre-Birthday Things!
Who would have thought that a Clarion Write-a-thon challenge would have turned into such an ongoing and unfolding creature! I remember when I got to twenty and thought “ughhh, there are no more ideas, how on EARTH will I EVER get this webcomic to 60?
I should do something for their birthday, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?

Liz is now balancing on her face sock, chuffles the balloon unicorn, pumpkin cat, flower, mayara, monorail bunny, a cake with candles lit, Mumma Tanking Bear, Maggie, Rollerskate and Boot. The sun is very close! The Things look on.
Transcript:
Liz balances most of the folks from the things world in a giant inverted pyramid starting with sock on her face.
Thing 1: Are you…
Thing 2: Comfy?
Liz: I can take it.
Thing 2: But do you want to take it.
Liz: I want to be useful
Thing 2: And, ummm.
Thing 1: How is this useful?
Liz: I’d tell you, but it’s hard to think with this pain in my neck.
Ptoing! Spow!
PBS’ Idea Channel just released an episode called “When Does Play Become Work?” Which, in part, talks about the stacking up of culture and the work of consuming it. Seems an appropriate video to put here given how over stacked folks can feel. I am creating consumables too! Although perhaps a little bit further away from the dominant hegemony given no big producer is producing the things. Move along, no money to be seen here!?… though a girl can dream.
Liz throws her arms up in the air and many characters of the Things fly through the air!
Sometimes falling is fun!
Everyone is splatted everywhere. Cake is flying off into the distance.
“Lets do that again!”
Dun dun dun.

Things and Liz gathered around.
Thing 1: We’re glad you’re here.
Thing 2: It’s such a relief knowing the scary hand was you all along.
Liz: I’m not the hand! You think I can punch through dimensional rifts on my own?
Liz: I’m good, but I’m not that good.
Thing 1: What is it?
Liz: It’s not important, don’t worry.
Liz leaves.
Things stand in silence.
Things stand in silence.
The Things gaze out.
Don’t worry is such a scary phrase.
Is this a cliffhanger? I think it might be a cliffhanger!!!

Boot: So, what now?
Liz: I guess I should go home.
Boot: yeah?
Liz: Well who else will draw the comics?
Boot: You should sit down
Liz: There’s something I need to tell you.
