Character: The Things

The Things don’t have arms, legs or a gender. Physically, they are nigh invulnerable and emotionally vulnerable, sensitive and kind. Sometimes they eat spoons!

  • Thing 1: How do you keep going? Boot: You put on foot in front of the other Thing 1: But we don't have feet! Boot: Oh... me neither Boot: I just get really stubborn Thing 2: And? Thing 1: I feel like you do something really clever Boot: And my secret trick. Will you keep it a secret? Thing 2: Sure! Boot: I find something to love. It could be a rock or an apple. It doesn't have to be requited Boot: but love gets me through. A grumpy love... just to be clear.

  • Thing 1: Learning another language is hard! Thing 2: I know, memorizing words, learning the syntax, conjugating verbs, the brain freeze of actual conversations. Thing 1: And that’s not the hardest bit! Thing 1: I keep falling in love with the stories behind the words. The way metaphors are constructed and how senses are described. Thing 1: And in my excitement, I forget to memorize the words Thing 2: The word part is important. Thing 1: Yes, yes it is.
