Thing 1: Sometimes I don’t have words, only pictures.
Thing 2: *astonished puff of air*
Thing 1: You wouldn’t understand.
Thing 2: *sad puff of air*
Things 1: Sometimes I worry about someone stealing my identity
Things 2: Do you have one?
Thing 1: No
Thing 1: I used to have arms
Thing 1: but then I got better
Thing 2: I need a hug
Thing 1: Ok
Words typed instead of written. What do you think? Yay cool bananas? Or bleh?
Thing 2: Do you believe in me?
Thing 1: No
Thing 1: I have evidence
Thank you all, to everyone who believes in me oops! 😉 supports me, thinks kind thoughts, or takes the time to read. I value and appreciate you, and believe you are wonderful 🙂
Thing 1: I had a sad (smiles)
Thing 1: but I lost it (sad face)
So I’ve reached the scared part of updating and drawing. I have some things that folks like and I like, so now I don’t want to let people down. Drawing is easier than updating, so I’m glad I’ve got the write-a-thon egging me on. I only get to declare units of comic awesome if I upload it here – no cheating with scribbles I don’t think are good enough to share.
It’s interesting to see how the different comics resonate for different people. Some responses are expected, some are quite surprising. At the end of the day I hope each comic will stay true to the thingness of the things. I don’t want to let you down and give you a disappointing experience, but even more than that, I don’t want to let the things down.
Thing 1: I had a sad (smiles)
Thing 1: but I lost it (sad face)
Thing 1: It might be scared
Thing 2: and lonely
Nothing like looking at something after it’s gone public!
The sad feels a bit incomplete, but it might be the right kind of incomplete… A space that lets the mind wander… But it might not be. Anyway, an hour after I posted the things an alternative sprang to mind. I’ve quickly sketched it up, afraid if I waited it would disappear or I’d become self conscious. You can read in the lines that I’m a little dizzy, but I promise I’ll go back to eating my soup now (it’s carrot, ginger and coconut… I should have put chilies in).
Anyhow, I’d love to know which on you like better.
Thing 1: If you could be anything what would you be?
Thing 2: Now
Thing 2: What would you be?
Thing 1: This
What would you like to be?
Thing 1: I like they
Thing 2: me too
Inspired by Rose Fox who was the epitome of grace when they expressed their pronoun preference thus “For the record, my preferred pronoun is “they”. If you use “she” for me, I won’t be upset, but if you use “they” I will be THRILLED.”
So you can thank Rose for inspiring me to draw without a stylus (I have ordered a new one). It started out much more complicated, as things often do, but the Things have a way with language and after all my hard work they knew what they wanted to say all along.
